Deceased Estates
Unfortunately, having to deal with managing a deceased estate is a task many of us will have to shoulder at some stage in our lives – but having someone who is familiar with what’s involved can ease the burden.
What the estate comprises
The property and assets belonging to a person who has died, called their deceased estate, may include real estate, money in bank accounts, shares, and personal possessions. Some types of income can also form part of the deceased estate. However, some assets will not be included because the deceased may have decided to distribute them in other ways or own the assets as a joint tenant.
The deceased estate holds the assets in trust from the time of the death of the person concerned until the transfer of the property and assets to their beneficiaries as nominated in their will.
Superannuation and life insurance payments may or may not form part of the deceased estate.
How can we help?
At Moore & Co. Accountants we have many years of experience in handling the tax responsibilities and capital gains (CGT) implications involved in deceased estates. We can help lodging the final tax return as well as any outstanding tax returns, lodging any trust tax returns, and providing beneficiaries with the information they need to include distributions in their own returns.
About Us
We have used Moore and Co. Accountants knowledge and the help of the efficient staff in handling our tax affairs for more than 20 years. The atmosphere is informal and the ability to sit with them personally to discuss the detail of our taxes gives us great confidence that we are getting the best possible outcome.
Moore & Co. Accountants has been doing my tax returns since 1975 when I commenced my first full time job in real estate. They have always had my best interests at the forefront of their advice and whilst we may have had some robust discussions about matters over the years I have always valued their wise counsel.
Over the years I have had a number of taxation agents in places where I have lived, but since returning to Melbourne I have genuinely found Moore & Co. Accountants to be the best all-round company for all of our accountancy needs.
Moore & Co. Accountants has been auditing my SMSF since I started it in 1997. Throughout the years, they have been rigorous and efficient in the audit. Small errors have been corrected and advice acted on, both of which have invariably resulted in tax savings and the maintenance of clean and clear accounting records.
